The centre was the brain child of surgeon Mr Peter Naughton who saw the need for a support service for newly diagnosed cancer patients. It has been in existence since 2003 and originally operated from rented accommodation near the centre of Portlaoise. Since 2007 the centre has been located in a delightful modern building close to the town’s hospital.

The therapies offered by the centre, all entirely free of charge, include

• acupuncture
• breast prosthesis fitting by appointment
• counselling
• Indian head massage
• manual lymphatic drainage
• massage
• reflexology
• reiki

In addition volunteer tutors offer classes and workshops in

• aqua aerobics
• art
• crochet
• meditation and visualisation
• yoga

A Specialist Nurse is Available

A nurse specialist experienced in cancer treatment is on hand for consultation and is responsible for devising and managing the programmes offered in consultation with users and a volunteer board of management composed of local business men and women.
