There are two primary types of courts in the United States: federal and state. At the state level, New York exhibits some marked differences, like how the courts are named and the tough stance they take on cameras and recording devices.
The trial courts in New York are called the Supreme Courts, a name reserved in almost all other states for the highest court. More commonly, they are referred to as Superior or District Courts.
